Israelis kill Palestinian east of Gaza
Israeli soldiers have opened fire on Palestinian resistance fighters near a separation fence east of Gaza City, killing a member of al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade.
Palestinian medics found on Friday a dismembered body after being informed by locals about an exchange of fire in the northern Nahal Oz border crossing, Reuters reported.
The Fatah-associated al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade confirmed involvement in the shooting, saying one of its members was killed in the incident.
Palestinian sources later identified the victim as Mohammed Saleem, 24, saying another fighter was injured by Israeli gunfire.
An Israeli military spokesman charged the Palestinians with attempting to plant explosive near the fence between the Gaza Strip and Israel, and throwing a hand grenade at the Israeli troops stationed there.
On Tuesday, two Palestinian fighters belonging to the Gaza-based Islamic Jihad movement were killed in clashes with Israeli forces who tried to enter the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza.
Israeli tanks and military bulldozers crossed into the Palestinian territory following the incident and despite more armored vehicles having been deployed on the Israeli side of the border. The Israeli army sent a helicopter to the area following the incident and fired tank shells into the Palestinian coastal enclave.
