Syria: Israel greatest threat to ME
Syria’s foreign minister has said that Israel, with the numerous atomic warheads it has in its stockpile, poses the biggest nuclear threat to the Middle East.
Walid al-Muallem made the remark after he arrived in the Iranian capital to take part in the two-day nuclear disarmament conference, dubbed ‘Nuclear Energy for All, Nuclear Weapons for No One.’
“The Tehran conference provides a great opportunity to push for the implementation of nuclear disarmament goals. I hope it will help create a serious determination for global nuclear disarmament,” he said.
The foreign minister also commented on the recent Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) signed between the US and Russia, saying that he hopes to see the two nuclear-armed powers carry out the commitments they have made in the agreement.
The Tehran nuclear disarmament conference opened on Saturday with politicians and experts from over 70 countries taking part in the event.
