China opens World Expo 2010
More than 20 world leaders have attended the spectacular opening ceremony in Shanghai as China celebrates the launch of the 2010 World Expo.
Ranging from the United States to North Korea, almost 200 nations will take part in the display of ideas and cultures over the next six months.
This year’s World Fair is focused on the challenges of urbanization under the motto “Better City, Better Life.”
The event is expected to draw 70 million visitors from around the world.
Security is tight, with random identification and travelers’ checks by the police.
China has poured over 4 billion dollars into the exposition to showcase its growing economic prowess.
The 2010 expo is scheduled to open to the public on Saturday.
