Iran to stand by Syria against Israel
Iran vows to stand by Syria against any threat posed by Israel, after Washington warned Tehran and Damascus against “making threats” to Tel Aviv’s security.
“Syria is ready to confront any threat and Iran will always stand alongside Syria,” said Iran’s First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi in a joint press conference with Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Naji al-Utri in Damascus on Friday.
He said Israel’s threats against Syria are insignificant and added, “We will firmly support our friend country Syria against any threat.”
Iran’s vice-president described the unity between Iran and Syria as an “iron fist” against powers, who hatch plots against Islamic countries — particularly Syria, Lebanon and Iraq.
Rahimi’s remarks came after US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton assured Tel Aviv that the US commitment to Israeli security is “unshakable” in the face of what she called threats posed by “Iran and Syria.”
Iran’s first vice-president Rahimi arrived in Damascus on Thursday on a two-day official visit.
