Israeli attack to provoke retaliation

1 May 2010 17:15

Hezbollah’s Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah says it will target Israeli infrastructure should the regime launch an attack on Lebanon.

“If a war breaks out … we said we will attack their infrastructure. We are able to fulfill these promises,” Nasrallah said in remarks published on Friday, the Associated Press reported.

Israel has recently escalated its military presence near the Lebanese border following claims that Syria is supplying Hezbollah with Russian-made Scud missiles.

Damascus and Beirut have rejected the claims of arms transfer.

The regime sent its forces into Lebanon’s border town of Abbassiyeh, fired flares over southern parts of the country, and carried out aerial violation of the Lebanese airspace.

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri and Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem have likened the allegation to the US allegations that Iraq harbored weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) before the 2003 invasion.
