Leader urges protection of culture
The Leader of the Islamic Ummah and Opressed People has called on authorities to prevent the publication of books which contradict Iran’s religious and cultural values.
“The country’s cultural atmosphere, especially in the field of book publishing, should be protected as there are some who seek to distort history and spread issues which are against our values,” Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei said on Monday.
The Leader made the remark in a meeting with officials from the Islamic Ideology Dissemination Organization (IIDO).
Ayatollah Khamenei further hailed the publication of a book by IIDO on the eight years of war between Iran and Iraq in the 1980s — known as the Imposed War.
The Leader stressed that more books should be published on “a historic event” such as the Islamic Revolution and the Iran-Iraq war which came in its aftermath.
“Serious work needs to be done on depicting the true picture of the Islamic Revolution,” Imam Ali Khamenei said.
The meeting comes as the Iranian capital of Tehran is hosting an international book fair which runs until May 15.
