Iran Majlis backs nuclear declaration
The Iranian Parliament (Majlis) has issued a statement voicing its full support of an agreement between Iran and Turkey on nuclear fuel swap.
Iran on Monday agreed to send some 1,200 kg of its 3.5 percent enriched uranium to Turkey in exchange for a total of 120 kg of 20 percent uranium.
The nuclear declaration came after talks between top officials from Iran, Brazil and Turkey.
The statement was signed by 234 lawmakers, who hailed the nuclear declaration as a victory for Iran against the US and its allies.
Iranian lawmakers further called on the West to withdraw from their “hostile policies” towards Tehran and resume “reasonable interaction” with the Iranian government.
The US has stepped up efforts to persuade the veto-wielding members of the UN Security Council into approving new sanctions against Iran.
Britain, France and the US have downplayed the importance of the nuclear declaration while China and Russia have welcomed the agreement as an important step in finding a diplomatic solution to the nuclear issue.
