Iran ready to help Lebanon
The Iranian ambassador to Beirut says the Islamic Republic is ready to help Lebanon overcome its electricity shortage and to cooperate in its oil exploration and drilling projects.
Lebanon has not had success in generating electricity over the past 15 years, but if Lebanese officials ask for help, Iran is ready to help them solve their problem, the Fars news agency quoted Ambassador Ghazanfar Abedi as saying on Saturday.
We are ready to prepare a plan to that end within six months and to do the job at the lowest possible cost, he said, adding that Iranian officials have discussed the issue with the Lebanese energy minister.
Lebanon is currently facing a severe shortage of electricity and the Lebanese sometimes experience 18 hours of electricity cut-offs in a single day.
The Iranian ambassador also stated that the key to solving the issue is in the hands of the Lebanese government, and thus the cabinet should make an important political decision on the matter.
He added that Iran is prepared to cooperate with Lebanon in oil exploration and drilling projects and is ready to help supply the Lebanese military the weaponry it requires.
