29 August 2010 9:56

Two civilians were shot Saturday morning by Israeli occupation forces (IOF) east of the town of Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza Strip, while exercising their profession of collecting scrap at devastated areas in the northern Gaza Strip.

Muawiya Hassanein, head of the Health Ministry’s emergency unit, said in an exclusive statement to the Palestinian Information Center, that Sharif Said Ghubn, 24, and Rami Ibrahim Ghubn, 14, arrived at the Kamal Adwan Hospital with moderately wounded limbs after they were shot by Israeli troops stationed at towers in east Beit Hanoun.

In related developments, Israeli police and border guard soldiers arrested Friday dozens of West Bank workers throughout Galilee, Negev, and other regions under the pretext of not having permits to work in 1948 occupied Palestine, Palestinian labor sources said.

Reinforcement troops from the border guards, army, and police managed to arrest 30 adult laborers and 10 minors across the West Bank during extensive raid and search campaigns against Arab homes, workplaces, and facilities and Israeli work premises, the sources said.

The accused were subjected to heavy fines after they appeared before a kangaroo court.

Israeli police arrested Friday night 59 Palestinian laborers in the city of Sakhnein, the West Bank, and surrounding areas amid raids on workplaces and facilities in the city, Israeli radio reported.

57 of the detainees were released and two remained in police custody for allegedly having security files built up against them.

There has been a sharp rise in raid and arrest campaigns against Palestinian laborers since Ramadan set in this year, especially on the weekends.
