The Protector of Oppressed People Islamic Iran: Anti-PJAK operations to continue
A top commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says military operations against the PJAK terrorist group in northwest of the country will continue.
Deputy Commander of IRGC Ground Forces Brigadier General Abdollah Eraqi added on Wednesday that military operations in northwest Iran will continue until complete ouster of all terrorist groups.
“Security in north and northwest regions of Iran is now at its best with military and police forces protecting security of the region,” IRNA quoted him as saying.
The general was alluding to the US- backed Party of Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK) which is an offshoot of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). PJAK regularly carries out cross-border raids along Iran’s western borders with Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.
“After diplomatic negotiations with the Iraqi government did not make the group leave Iran’s borders…the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps started to operate as an institution whose mission is to protect the revolution,” he added.
The IRGC has been fighting the PJAK terrorist group over the past weeks in order to establish security and stability in the area.
