Resistance missiles prove weakness of Israel Iron Dome: Iran MP

19 November 2012 19:04

An Iranian lawmaker says retaliatory counterstrikes by the Palestinian resistance fighters against Israel have exposed the weakness of Israel’s Iron Dome missile shield.

“Landing of the resistance missiles in important cities of the Zionist regime [of Israel] can be regarded as a firm and categorical response to the aggressions of the occupying regime against the Gaza Strip,” member of Iran Majlis (parliament) Presiding Board Hossein Sobhani-Nia said on Monday.

While the Israeli regime’s officials were proud of the Iron Dome missile shield, most missiles fired by the Palestinian resistance succeeded to hit their targets, he added.

In retaliation to the ongoing deadly Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, Palestinian resistance fighters continue to fire rockets and missiles into Israel, including Eilat, Eshkol regional council, Sha’ar HaNegev and Be’er Sheva cities, Gan Yavne town and coastal city of Ashkelon.

Israel has ordered all education centers within 40 kilometers of the Gaza Strip to remain closed on Monday. Israeli media reported that the Iron Dome missile shield has failed to protect the cities from Palestinian rocket attacks.

They say only a third of the projectiles have been intercepted by the Israeli Iron Dome since Wednesday.

The Iranian lawmaker further stated that in view of the existing differences among Muslim countries, the Israeli regime did not expect them to support the Palestinian resistance so extensively.

The support of regional Muslim countries for the Palestinian resistance has raised the Palestinian fighters’ morale which can result in the surrender of Israel in the near future, the Iranian legislator pointed out.

Last week, the Israeli military launched a series of new air and sea attacks, dubbed “Operation Pillar of Cloud” against Gazans after assassinating Hamas’ military chief, Ahmed al-Ja’abari, the head of Ezzedeen al-Qassam Brigades.

The Israeli military says it has attacked the Gaza Strip 1,350 times since the beginning of the new wave of raids on November 14.

The Israeli offensive has left over 100 Palestinians dead and hundreds of others injured so far.
