MP: Iran to Start Mass Production of Home-Made Drones Soon

8 December 2012 18:05

A member of the Iranian parliament stressed the country’s great technological achievements in defense fields, including production of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and announced that Iran will start mass production of its home-made pilotless drones in the near future.

“Although the West and those who consider themselves as superpowers do not believe, the mass-production of Iranian drones will be started in the not far future, and then those who imagine to be superpowers should bow to the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Nasrallah Pejmanfar told FNA on Saturday.

He called on the West to acknowledge Iran’s capabilities, and noted, “The West should recognize that we are serious in our will and determination to expand and advance our technologies, the defense technologies in particular, and Iran’s announcements are not diplomatic posture.”

In relevant remarks today, a senior Iranian aviation industry official praised the country’s capability in building highly advanced Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, but said Iran plans to still boost the capabilities of its pilotless drones.

“As regards UAV capability, our country stands at international levels, but we still want to expand it,” Managing-Director of the Iranian Aviation Industries Organization (IAIO) Manouchehr Manteqi told reporters here in Tehran on Saturday.

Iran has recently made giant advancements in aerospace industries, specially in designing and manufacturing pilotless drones.

In September, Iran announced that it has started using UAVs for its air defense units as part of its broader plans for strengthening the country’s air defense capability.

Speaking to reporters on the occasion of the National Day of Air Defense here in Tehran on September 3, Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli said Iran has equipped its air defense units with Haazem drones.

The drone can be used as a target for air defense systems and also for reconnaissance missions.

Haazem can also be equipped with missiles and used for aerial bombardments as well.
