Israeli measures against teachings of Christ: Analyst
The Israeli regime’s measures in driving Palestinians out of their homeland run counter to the teachings of Prophet Jesus for peace and justice in the world, an analyst says.
“Jesus came into this world as a sign of hope for human victory against injustice and oppression, and as a promise of world peace. Fulfillment of that promise depends on what other human beings do about it,” Finian Cunningham wrote in a column for the Press TV website on Thursday.
His article comes one day after Israeli forces marred Christmas celebrations in the city of Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank.
Cunningham described the Israeli military assault on Bethlehem and Christmas as “one facet of the wider genocide against Palestinians.”
“That genocide is allowed to happen largely because Western governments in Washington and Europe either support the Israeli regime with billions of dollars a year in military aid or, at best, refuse to hold Tel Aviv to account under international legal standards,” he wrote.
Cunningham said the Israeli actions affect “all human beings, whether Christian or Muslim, or any other.”
“This arbitrary prohibition on people celebrating their religion is a calculated insult by the Israeli regime, and no doubt is part of its long-term campaign to further depopulate Palestinian territories and ‘cleanse’ the demographic facts on the ground,” he wrote.
More than half a million Israelis live in over 120 illegal settlements built since Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds in 1967.
