Iran building new generation of centrifuges
Iran is building a new generation of centrifuges for uranium enrichment, Atomic Energy Organization of Iran director announced in Isfahan on Thursday.
“The new generation of centrifuges is being built. But all tests should be carried on it before mass production,” Ali Akbar Salehi said, without elaborating.
Salehi also said that Iran has a total of 19,000 centrifuges. He did not say how many were operational.
Under an interim nuclear deal reached between Iran and world powers in Geneva last month, Iran promised not to bring new centrifuges into operation for six months. But the deal does not stop it from developing centrifuges.
Iran announced in August that more than 10,000 centrifuges were operating, and 7,000 were ready to start operation.
