Ukraine is ‘Obama’s war’: Analyst

31 May 2014 21:22

The ongoing crisis in Ukraine is a “war of aggression” planned and supported by Washington, an American political analyst tells Press TV.

“The war in Ukraine is [President Barack] Obama’s war, he planned it,” said Stephen Lendman, a writer and radio host in Chicago. “When I say he planned it, his people planned it, the people around him, the bureaucrats in the administration, the officials in government, including the CIA and the FBI,” he added.

Ukraine’s current acting government is run by the same type of people who ran Nazi Germany in the 1930’s and 1940’s, Lendman said on Saturday. “These are the people running things in Ukraine, there’s a war going on in Ukraine against ordinary people.”

“The war is to destroy freedom; it’s to institutionalize fascism of the worst kind. Again, we’re going back to Hitlerism, that’s what this is all about and all kinds of dirty things are going on,” he said. “And Washington supports this…Washington planned it all, supports it all.”

Ukraine has been gripped by unrest since November 2013, when now-ousted president, Viktor Yanukovych, refrained from signing an Association Agreement with the European Union in favor of closer ties with Russia.

The crisis has caused relations between Moscow and Washington to plummet to the lowest level in a generation.

Tensions between Washington and Moscow heightened after Crimea declared independence from Ukraine and formally applied to become part of the Russian Federation following a referendum in March.

Russia fears the new Western-leaning government in Kiev would try to take Ukraine, a former Soviet republic, into the US-dominated Atlantic Alliance.

Ukraine’s President-elect Petro Poroshenko has ruled out negotiations with pro-Russia activists, vowing to continue military operations in the southeastern provinces.
