Ali Akbar Salehi made the remarks in a joint session with Iran’s Department of Environment held to sign a memorandum of cooperation.

The official deemed the MoU as an indicator of cooperation between two organizations on issues concerning the environment. Salehi added “AEOI is obliged to examine the soil, water resources, and weather on the issue of radiation.”

He expressed hope that this kind of radio-ecologic examination would be set up along the borders with the cooperation of neighbor countries to reduce the possible risks.

Noting the peacful nuclear activities of countries of the region, Salehi emphasized that Iran is ready to form a security convention to be monitoring the activities of power plants in the region.

Masoumeh Ebtekar, Head of DOE, for her part expressed her pleasure over cooperation between AEOI and DOE and described the deal as the result of several months of research and study.

She praised the AEOI for cnsidering the environmental issues and said “this organization benefits from proper structure and performs logically and appropriately.”

“Strict standards and controls have to be established to secure the atomic technology and its functions and to avoid environmental risks and threats,” Ebtekar added.

She hoped the AEOI and DOE would present an inclusive report by February 2016.
