Iraqi MP Ameri Survives Terrorist Attack
Head of Iraq’s Badr Organization Hadi al-Ameri survived a terrorist attack on his convoy near the northern city of Kirkuk.
The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorists on Sunday afternoon attacked al-Ameri’s convoy, but failed to assassinate him. They, however, killed one of his guards and injured six others.
Colonel Kaveh Gharib, the police chief of the town Daquq, south of Kirkuk, told BasNews website that the Iraqi lawmaker’s convoy was attacked by the armed terrorists of the ISIL while traveling from Kirkuk towards Baghdad.
This is the second time Hadi al-Ameri is surviving terrorist attacks. Earlier, three of his guards had been injured in a bomb explosion in Diyala province.
ISIL made swift advances in northern and western Iraq over the summer, after capturing large swaths of northern Syria.
However, a combination of concentrated attacks by the Iraqi military and the volunteer forces, who rushed to take arms after top Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani issued a fatwa calling for fight against the militants, have blunted the edge of the ISIL offensive and freed many towns and villages.
