Iran seeks permanent removal of sanctions: Analyst
In this edition of The Debate, Press TV has conducted an interview with Brian Becker, with ANSWER Coalition from Washington, and Daniel Serwer, a professor at John Hopkins University from Washington, to discuss a recent mutual understanding reached Iran and the P5+1 countries over Tehran’s nuclear energy program and the fact sheet published by the US following the joint statement.
Becker says Iran has voluntarily entered the nuclear negotiations with the six world powers and seeks the permanent removal of the sanctions imposed against the Islamic Republic over its peaceful nuclear activities, stressing that the temporary of partial lifting of the bans cannot satisfy the Islamic Republic.
If White House officials are thinking about suspending or partially lifting the anti-Iran sanctions, they should know that this will hinder a perpetual settlement of the longstanding dispute over the Iranian nuclear dossier, Becker warns.
Meanwhile, Serwer says Iran and the P5+1 have yet to reach a precise agreement on sanctions removal, adding that the issue should remain on the agenda of the nuclear discussions ahead of the June 30 deadline.
