Iraqi president: Iran nuclear deal is a big success
Iraqi President Fouad Masoum has said the nuclear agreement reached between Iran and the Group 5+1 is a great success.
In a statement released by Iraqi Presidebt Office on Saturday, Masoum praised the agreed deal in Lausanne and said Iraq is hopeful that the two sides sign the final agreement in near future, and the agreement could open a new chapter towards more security and peace in the region, according to Alforat News website.
President Masoum expressed hope that dialog would continue to be the only way to solve regional and international problems and keep humanity safe from atomic threats and armed conflicts.
Iran and the P5+1 along with officials from the European Union reached a mutual understanding on Tehran’s nuclear program after eight days of marathon talks in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Thursday.
According to a joint statement, considered the basis for a final nuclear deal, the two sides have devised a mechanism to lift sanctions after the agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), is reached by the end of June.
The joint statement read by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Persian late Thursday stipulates implementation of the JCPOA shortly after its adoption as a United Nations Security Council resolution.
It has been clearly stated that all UNSC resolutions will be terminated from the day of agreement, Zarif said, in his joint statement with the EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.
