Great Satan US accelerating arm shipments to Saudi-led offensive against Yemen
The Pentagon is accelerating sending weapons to assist in the Saudi-led military offensive against Yemen, a senior US official says.
The US is also increasing intelligence exchanges with the Saudi regime as it continues its deadly airstrikes against neighboring Yemen, Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Tuesday.
“We have expedited weapons deliveries, we have increased our intelligence sharing, and we have established a joint coordination planning cell in the Saudi operation center,” Blinken told reporters on a visit to Riyadh.
“Saudi Arabia is sending a strong message to the Houthis and their allies that they cannot overrun Yemen by force,” he said, referring to the Ansarullah Houthi revolutionaries who are seeking to oust terrorist groups from the country.
US President Barack Obama has authorized the Pentagon to provide logistical and intelligence support to Saudi airstrikes in Yemen.
Saudi Arabia’s military aggression against Yemen started on March 26, without a UN mandate, in a bid to restore power to fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi.
More than 540 people have been killed and thousands have been injured in Yemen since the military conflict began in the Arab country, according to the World Health Organization.
Ansarullah Houthi revolutionaries say Hadi, who is now in Riyadh, lost his legitimacy as president of Yemen after he fled the capital to Aden in February.
Popular committees backed by Ansarullah fighters are continuing their advances despite the Saudi attacks while stepping up their fight against al-Qaeda terrorists and securing many areas from the militants.
