Palestinians in West Bank rally to mark Nakba Day

14 May 2015 9:58

Palestinians hold a rally in the occupied West Bank to commemorate the 67th anniversary of the Nakba (catastrophe) Day, the day when, in 1948, Israeli forces displaced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their land, Press TV reports.

Palestinian protesters took to the streets of the city of Ramallah on Wednesday to demand that the Israeli regime leave their lands after decades of occupation.

“I still remember how we were displaced by force in 1948. I was 15 years old,” a Palestinian protester (shown above) told Press TV.

Palestinians also carried the maps of Palestine and large metal keys, which are a national symbol of houses lost decades ago.

Many participants in the Ramallah march wore black T-shirts with the message, “1948, the return is a right and the will of the people,” in reference to the right of Palestinians to return to their homes.

“My grandfather told us about how they were expelled by force and he told us about the crimes committed then by Israeli gangs,” another protester (shown above) said.

A young Palestinian protester (shown above) also said, “one day, we and our children will go back to our stolen lands, this is our right.”

Palestinians mourn May 15 as the day of Nakba, the date of the creation of the Israeli regime back in 1948.

More than 760,000 Palestinians – now estimated to number nearly five million with their descendants – were driven out of their homes on May 15, 1948.

Since then, the Israeli regime has denied Palestinian refugees the right to return, despite UN resolutions and international laws upholding the people’s right to return to their homelands.
