27 May 2015 10:08

At least three people have been killed and more than a dozen others injured in three separate mortar attacks by foreign-sponsored militants against residential areas in Syria’s northern city of Aleppo.

A police source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said three civilians lost their lives and 19 others sustained injuries when a number of mortar shells landed in the Minshiyeh and Abbareh neighborhoods as well as the Public Park in Aleppo, located 355 kilometers (220 miles) north of the capital, Damascus, on Tuesday, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported.

The projectiles also caused damage to several houses and buildings at the residential areas.

Cities and towns across Syria have frequently come under bomb attacks as well as mortar and rocket fire by militants since crisis erupted in the country more than four years ago.

On May 21, at least seven civilians were killed and dozens of others injured after Takfiri terrorist groups fired rockets on Aleppo, Damascus and the southwestern Syrian city of Dara’a.

Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis since March 2011. The violence fueled by Takfiri groups has so far claimed the lives of over 222,000 people, according to the UK-based so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The toll does not include some 20,000 people listed as missing.

Over 3.8 million Syrians have left their country since the beginning of the crisis. More than 7.2 million Syrians have also become internally displaced, according to the UN.
