Iraqi Forces Rescue Families from ISIL Siege South of Ramadi

13 June 2015 10:08

Iraqi Forces rescued dozens of families from a siege in the Southern parts of Ramadi by the ISIL terrorist group, a police official in Anbar province said.

The official said that the ISIL had laid siege to the area since the Iraqi Army was forced to retreat in mid-May, Rudaw reported.

“In a military operation, Iraqi forces backed by the Shiite Hashed al-Shaabi militia and tribal fighters rescued the families in the Tash area, South of Ramadi,” said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The rescued families are now in a safe zone, he said.

Local media on Friday reported that security sources in Anbar are “intensely” fighting the ISIL terroriss in Southern battlefields of Ramadi.

Last week, Secretary-General of the Badr Organization and commander of Iraqi popular forces Hadi al-Ameri underlined that his forces are ready for battle against the ISIL in the city of Ramadi.

Ameri reiterated that the Iraqi popular and security forces have made the final preparations for purging Ramadi of ISIL terrorists.

He did not mention the exact date for attacking the Ramadi city, though.

The Iraqi forces have tightened their noose around the terrorists in the Western city of Ramadi.

The liberation of the area came after the Iraqi forces lifted the ISIL siege on the country’s soldiers in the region.
