Syrian Army Recovers Lost Territory in North Aleppo
This week started off rough for the Syrian Armed Forces, as the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” – in coordination with their allies from Jaysh Al-Mujahiddeen and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham – launched a large-scale offensive around the provincial capital and the northern countryside of the Aleppo Governorate, producing substantial gains at the town of Bashkoy and the Al-Rashideen District in Aleppo City.
On Monday morning, the militants from Jabhat Al-Nusra – alongside their allies – captured a number of building blocks inside the Al-Rashideen District of the provincial capital; however, the Al-Qaeda combatants were unsuccessful in capturing the strategic Scientific Research Facility that the soldiers from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Liwaa Al-Quds (Jerusalem Brigades) remain entrenched at inside the district.
In addition to their success at Al-Rashideen, the militants from Jabhat Al-Nusra also achieved success at Bashkoy, where they captured the hills overlooking the town, including Tal Al-Afghani at the western outskirts.
With Jabhat Al-Nusra and their allies suffering heavy losses during this offensive, the Syrian Armed Forces chose the perfect time to began a small counter-offensive to retake the ground lost at Bashkoy and the Al-Rashideen District; this proved successful on Friday morning, as the soldiers from the Syrian Arab Army, the National Defense Forces, and Liwaa Al-Quds overpowered the Al-Qaeda combatants and recaptured a number of points.
Among those points recaptured by the Syrian Armed Forces, the aforementioned were able to retake control of Tal Al-Afghani and the hills surrounding the town of Bashkoy, killing and wounding a number of enemy combatants from Al-Qaeda in the process.
According to a military source in the Aleppo Governorate, the Syrian Armed Forces have killed over 100 Jabhat Al-Nusra militants in the span of four days; meanwhile, the Syrian Armed Forces reported 31 soldiers killed-in-action (KIA).
