Senior Cleric: No Change in Iran’s Policy towards US
Tehran’s provisional Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ahmad Khatami underlined that the nuclear agreement between Tehran and the world powers does not mean that Iran should change its policy towards the US.
Addressing a large and fervent congregation of the people on Tehran University campus on Friday, Ayatollah Khatami said, “The US has oppressed the Iranian nation for over 50 years, and our nation are, thus, entitled to the right to chant ‘Down with the US’ even more honorably than before.”
He pointed to the war rhetoric of the US statesmen against Iran, and said, “We do not welcome war and we are not war-mongers either, but if the Americans want to try their chance once again, then they should have no doubt that they will bring in their soldiers on airplanes, but will send them back in coffins to their cities and we will chase the enemy to its soil on our airplanes.”
In relevant remarks earlier this month, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei underlined the nuclear agreement between Tehran and the six world powers (the US, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany) will not change Iran’s policy towards the US.

Iran and the six world powers struck a deal in Vienna on July 14.
The hitherto elusive agreement was finally nailed down on Tuesday in the ritzy Palais Coburg Hotel in the Austrian capital of Vienna, where negotiators from Iran and the six other countries had recently been spending over two weeks to work out the remaining technical and political issues.
The agreement, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), will be presented to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Monday to adopt a resolution in the following two days to make the JCPOA an official document.
