10 August 2015 19:16

The first cousin removed of the Syrian President, Dr. Bashar Al-Assad, has yet to turn himself in to the Syrian authorities in Latakia City after it was alleged that he shot and killed Colonel Hassan Al-Sheikh of the Syrian Arab Army’s Engineering Corps on Thursday night.

According to eyewitness testimonies, Suleiman Hilal Al-Assad of the National Defense Forces (NDF), was identified by the children of Colonel Hassan Al-Sheikh as the man that opened fire on their vehicle following a minor car accident.

Despite claims by Opposition media sources, Suleiman Al-Assad has not fled Syria and the protests in Latakia have nothing to do with the residents alleged “discontent” with the Syrian President.

A source in Latakia confirmed that the Syrian authorities are currently negotiating Suleiman Al-Assad’s surrender, as they hope to apprehend him in the coming hours.

Civilians in Latakia have expressed satisfaction over the Syrian Government’s handling of this crime; this was evident in the absence of protests for the first time since Friday.

Sources close to Suleiman Al-Assad have maintained that the aforementioned is innocent of this crime and that he will prove his innocence in the court of law when given the opportunity.

The Syrian President has not commented on this matter; however, the arrest warrant for Suleiman Al-Assad reportedly came from the office of the Latakia Governor, who spoke on behalf of the government.

For the second time in the last 48 hours, members of the Assad family have visited the Al-Sheikh’s in order to offer their condolences for their deceased family member.
