Aleppo: Over 50 Militants from Fateh Halab Killed During Their Failed Offensive at Bashkoy

28 August 2015 9:00

The conglomerate of Islamist factions “Fateh Halab” – led by Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and Harakat Nour Al-Deen Al-Zinki – launched a large-scale assault at Bashkoy on Tuesday, attempting to bypass the Syrian Armed Forces’ frontline defenses from the western flank of this town located in the Aleppo Governorate’s northern countryside.

Initially, the offensive proved somewhat successful for the Islamist groups, as they captured Bashkoy’s western entrance and the Poulty Farms; however, later that night, the National Defense Forces – in coordination with the Al-Ba’ath Battalions – conducted their own counter-assault to recapture the Poultry Farms located at the southern flank of this town – this attack proved successful.

With the Poultry Farms under their control, the Syrian Armed Forces worked vigorously to recapture the western entrance of Bashkoy from the Islamist rebels; this proved success, as the battle would continue for 24 straight hours before the Islamist contingents were unable to muster up another powerful assault that could rival their previous attack on Tuesday.

Finally, after suffering a significant amount of casualties and the destruction of their heavy weaponry, the Islamist factions that comprise of Fateh Halab withdrew from Bashkoy to the nearby town of Rityan, marking the conclusion of their failed offensive to recapture this farm area from the Syrian Armed Forces in northern Aleppo.

According to a military source in the Aleppo Governorate, the Islamist factions of Fateh Halab suffered heavy casualties over the last 48 hours: the estimate range from 50-70 enemy combatants killed and a number of armored vehicles destroyed, including a T-55 tank .
