Doha meeting, interference in Iraq affairs: Baghdad

Iraq has slammed Qatar for hosting a meeting attended by members of the Iraqi dissolved Baath party as well as some former officials wanted on terror charges.

In a statement on Sunday, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry condemned the meeting as a “blatant interference in Iraq’s internal affairs.”

The meeting was held in the Qatari capital, Doha, a few days ago and was reportedly attended by some Arab politicians, including members of the former dictator Saddam Hussein’s banned Baath party.

“While the Iraqi Foreign Ministry is waiting for explanation from the Qatari side, it clarifies that any conference on the internal affairs of Iraq held away from the knowledge of the Iraqi government is rejected,” the ministry said.

According to the statement, the meeting was attended by “individuals wanted by the Iraqi judiciary on charges of terrorism and cooperation with terrorist organizations.”
