218,000 refugees crossed Mediterranean in October: UN
The UN refugee agency says more than 218,000 refugees crossed the Mediterranean Sea in a bid to enter Europe during the month of October.
The spokesman for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Adrian Edwards, said on Monday that the refugee “arrivals in October paralleled the entire 2014.”
According to UN figures, 218,394 people crossed the Mediterranean Sea last month, with all except 8,000 arriving in Greece.
Through the entire 2014, 219,000 refugees arrived in Europe.
