President Rouhani: Iran to Stand beside Lebanese Nation in Fight against Terrorism

14 November 2015 14:35

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a message extended his condolences to the Lebanese nation and government over the recent terrorist attacks, and underlined that Tehran will remain on their side in the war on terrorism.

“On behalf of the Iranian nation, I condole with you the patient and dear Lebanese people, the bereaved families and the government on the recent terrorist incident in Beirut,” Rouhani said in his message on Saturday.

He underlined that the terrorist attacks and killing of innocent people indicates that all countries bear the responsibility to join the fight against terrorism.

“The great Iranian nation is standing beside you to deepen campaign on terrorism and extremism,” Rouhani said.

According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, 43 people were killed and nearly 240 people wounded when two large explosions rocked a security post in the Borj al-Barajneh area in a Southern suburb of the Lebanese capital on Thursday.

The two bombs exploded within five minutes and 20 meters from each other. The ISIL claimed responsibility for the explosions.

In a relevant development on Friday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in separate letters to his Lebanese counterpart Nabih Berri and Hezbollah Secretary General Seyed Hassan Nasrallah extended his condolences on the death of over 40 civilians and injury of tens of others in Thursday’s fatal twin terrorist attacks in Southern Beirut.

In his letter to Berri, Larijani condemned the terrorist attacks, condoled with the Lebanese government and nation and sympathized with the victims of the attacks.

In his letter to Nasrallah, the Iranian parliament speaker stressed the need for unity and solidarity in the campaign against terrorism and extremism.
