Yemen: Senior Commander of Pro-Hadi Militants Succumbs to Injuries

18 November 2015 18:31

A commander of the Saudi-backed militants loyal to the fugitive former Yemeni president, Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, succumbed to injuries he sustained during clashes with Yemen’s army and Popular Committees in Ta’iz Province.

Hashim al-Seyed, who was shot in the head and critically wounded during intense clashes with the Yemeni forces in the al-Omari district in Ta’iz on Tuesday, died in a Saudi hospital on Wednesday.

He had reportedly been transferred to the medical facility onboard an Emirati military aircraft.

There are reports that Seyed’s son and nephew were killed during the Tuesday gunfight in the Omari district.

Meanwhile, two high-ranking members of the al-Qaeda-affiliated Salafist Islah Party were killed when they engaged in heavy fighting with Yemeni forces in the Beihan district in the Yemen’ province of Shabwah on Tuesday.

The slain militants were later identified as Sha’fal al-Faraji and Jalal al-Mansouri.

Saudi Arabia has been striking Yemen for 238 days now to restore power to fugitive president Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh. The Saudi-led aggression has so far killed at least 6,938 Yemenis, including hundreds of women and children.

Hadi stepped down in January and refused to reconsider the decision despite calls by Ansarullah revolutionaries of the Houthi movement.

Despite Riyadh’s claims that it is bombing the positions of the Ansarullah fighters, Saudi warplanes are flattening residential areas and civilian infrastructures.
