Grand Ayatollah Sistani: ‘More should be done to counter enemy plots against Iraq and Syria’

Iraq’s top religious authority, Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Al-Sistani, has called for called for redoubled effort to counter enemy plots against Iraq and Syria.

According to a FARS news agency report, speaking in the Holy city of Najaf in Iraq, in a meeting with the mayor of Tehran, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Grand Ayatollah Sistani pointed to enemy efforts to harm and weaken Shiite Muslims, and he pointedly said: “The real reason why the enemies have created and nurtured terrorist groups such as the Taliban, Al-Qaeda and ISIL is to destroy or weaken Islamic nations, such as Iraq and Syria. Grand Ayatollah Sistani said more needs to be done to foil enemy plots and schemes.

Iraq’s top religious authority emphasized that the crises in Iraq and Syria, is a central concern of the Islamic world, and is also an international issue of importance.

Grand Ayatollah Sistani also thanked Tehran municipal council, and Tehran’s mayor, for helping to run smoothly the Araba’een mourning ceremonies in Iraq. Grand Ayatollah Sistani emphasized that creation of an Islamic Republic in Iran has brought security and prosperity for the Iranian people.
