Syrian Army enters the village of Al-Furdays in northern Homs

15 January 2016 7:17

Syrian Arab Army’s 47th Brigade 11th Tank Brigade – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) – bypassed the Islamist rebel defenses in Al-Furdays and entered this imperative village located inside the contested Al-Houla Plains ‘n Homs.

According to a military source in the Hama Governorate, the Syrian Arab Army’s 47th Brigade and their allies seized the northern entrance of Al-Furdays after securing the Orontes River crossing last night.

Currently, fierce firefights are ongoing between the Syrian Armed Forces and the Islamist rebels of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group), and the Free Syrian Army (FSA); all of these clashes were reported inside of the imperative village of Al-Furdays this morning.

The capture of Al-Furdays in the Al-Houla Plains is an important component of the Syrian Arab Army’s primary military objective in the Homs Governorate’s northern countryside because of its proximity to the rebel stronghold of Al-Rastan, which sits on the southern bank of the Orontes River.

The city of Al-Rastan in northern Homs has been firmly under the control of the Islamist rebels since early 2012; it was one of the first cities captured by the Gulf-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) and their allies.
