Iranian Speaker Asks for Islamic States’ Practical Measures to Fight Terrorism

28 January 2016 14:01

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani called on the Islamic countries to seriously increase efforts and moves to help campaign against terrorism.

Talking to reporters on Wednesday night upon arrival from Baghdad after participating in the 11th conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), Larijani said that during the conference different issues, including terrorism and the regional crises, were discussed.

“There is almost a good convergence in fighting against terrorism, although today we need practical measures more than any other time,” he added.

Larijani said that he had good talks and consultations with his counterparts during the Baghdad meeting.

In relevant remarks in 2014, the Iranian speaker underscored the country’s support for those world states, specially the ones in the region, that take real and practical measures against terrorism.

“We have adopted practical measures in fighting terrorism and if other countries take practical measures in this regard too, we will support them,” Larijani said in a joint press conference with his Iraqi counterpart Salim al-Jabouri in Baghdad at the time.

Larijani who was earlier in Syria and Lebanon before visiting Iraq, underlined that the three countries’ determination to fight terrorism is appreciable.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran supports the determination of these governments to fight terrorism,” he added.
