Tiger Forces begin strategic operation to liberate the Aleppo Thermal Power Plant

28 January 2016 18:56

Syrian Arab Army’s “Tiger Forces” (Qawat Al-Nimr) and “Desert Hawks Brigade” (Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra) are going to have their hands full this weekend as they shift their attention to the strategic Thermal Power Plant in the Aleppo Governorate’s eastern countryside.

Since the liberation of the Kuweires Military Airport in the Deir Hafer Plains, the Tiger Forces and their allies have steadily advanced along the imperative Aleppo-Raqqa Highway (M-4 Highway) in order to position themselves for an imminent assault on the Aleppo Thermal Power Plant.

However, the so-called “Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham” (ISIS) has been unwilling to yield much ground along the Aleppo-Raqqa Highway in fear of losing this strategic site in the Deir Hafer Plains. Should ISIS lose the Aleppo Thermal Power Plant to the Syrian Armed Forces, they will find themselves in a world of trouble in the Al-Plateau, as the latter will be able to seal off this roadway and block the remaining terrorists from fleeing the Deir Hafer area of east Aleppo.

With the high demand for electricity and most of the city without it, the Syrian Government (specifically, the Minister of Energy) has been under pressure to restore power for the 1.5 million civilians still living inside the provincial capital.
