President Rouhani: Iran Ready to Train Ghana Youth in Science, Research

14 February 2016 16:35

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Tehran is ready to train Ghana’s youth in scientific and research fields, calling on both countries to strengthen economic cooperation.

“We would like to see greater cooperation between the two countries in economy and culture,” Rouhani said, addressing the high-ranking delegations of both sides in Tehran on Sunday.

He described Ghanaian President John Daramani Mahama’s visit to Tehran as a turning point in bilateral relations, and added, “Iran is ready to share its experiences with Ghana through training programs in science and research.”

To this end, Rouhani said the two sides should cooperate in joint ventures in energy, construction, railway transport, agriculture, oil, gas, and technical engineering.

Earlier on Sunday, President Rouhani underlined that Iran was more than willing to broaden bilateral relations and cooperation with the African states.

“We attach special importance to the development of relations with the African countries, specially Ghana, and we are ready to cooperate with Accra in all fields of mutual interest,” President Rouhani said in a joint press conference with Mahama in Tehran on Sunday.

He underscored the need for regional and international cooperation in the fight against extremism and terrorism, adding that he has discussed the issue in the Sunday morning meeting with his Ghanaian counterpart.

Rouhani said they also conferred on the problems that the Palestinians are facing, and noted, “The world longs to see the return of Palestinian people to their homeland.”

Mahama, for his part, appreciated Iran for leading the war on terrorism and extremism, and said, “Extremism and violence is a threat to the entire world and today, after the nuclear deal, Iran can play a significant role in settling these pressing issues.”
