21 April 2016 11:57

Palestinian Islamic Resistance group Hamas claimed responsibility for the bus blast in Jerusalem (al-Quds), after one of its members who had carried out the bombing, died on Wednesday.

19-year-old Abd al-Hamid Abu Srour, from Aida refugee camp, Bethlehem, succumbed to his wounds Wednesday after being severely wounded in the explosion on the Jerusalem bus that took place on Monday.

Palestinian group Hamas claimed responsibility for the bus blast following Abu Srour’s death, saying he was a member of the the group’s resistance movement and had carried out the bombing.

A spokesperson for Shaare Zedek Medical Center in al-Quds said Abu Srour was severely burned and had lost both legs in the blast.

According to the hospital, the youth did not survive his severe injuries although he underwent surgery, Palestne News Network reported.

On Monday, Israeli police and rescue officials confirmed 21 people were injured, two of them seriously, when the number 12 city bus exploded on Moshe Baram Street in the Talpiot neighborhood at about 5:45 pm, setting the bus on fire.

A second intercity bus nearby and a car were also burned in the blast.

The blast was the first of its type in years. Those bus bombings were recurrent during the Second Intifada, which took place in the beginning of the 2000’s.

However, the current tension situation is ongoing since October first 2015, due to repetitive Israeli settler attacks on Al-Aqsa mosque, the third holiest place in Islam, and Israeli restrictions over Palestinian entrance, in addition to the Duma arson attack which killed a baby and his parents on July, 31.
