Iranian researchers build drilling rig measuring device
Iranian researchers at Amirkabir University of Technology have managed to design and build a highly-accurate measuring device for drilling rigs.
Hossein Afarideh, the project manager and the Director General of a knowledge-based company in which the project has been conducted, told Mehr News that the highly-accurate measuring device uses data fusion, accelerometers and magnetometers in order to measure the angles needed to steer the drill bit.
Given the harsh working conditions such as high shock environment as well as the heat from the depths of the earth have necessitated the production of such devices, he added.
Afarideh maintained that the designed measuring device includes in its software a thermal calibration as well as multiple filters to prevent noise, disturbances and shock so that it can be successfully installed on the processor of the drilling machine.
He added that in the hardware of the device, the difficulty of drilling rigs has also been taken into consideration.
According to Afarideh, the measuring device has been commercialized and is in high demand from the country’s drilling and exploration companies.
