Syrian Army Troops Few Kilometers Away from Sha’er Oilfield

18 May 2016 8:47

The Syrian army and popular forces are racing towards al-Sha’er oilfield in the Eastern part of Homs, military sources said Tuesday, adding that they are only 5km away from the oil-rich region now.

“All territories up to a region that is just 5km away from al-Sha’er oilfield have been purged of terrorists,” a field commander said minutes ago.

He added that hundreds of terrorists have been killed and a major part of ISIL’s military grid in the region has been destroyed in the recent operations in the Eastern parts of Homs that sped up its momentum on Monday.

The commander expressed confidence that the strategic oil field will be liberated soon.

The pro-government troops in Syria launched massive operations against ISIL-held territories in Eastern Hom province on Monday, targeting the ISIL strongholds near al-Sha’er oilfield.

The Syrian Army troops inflicted major damage on the ISIL positions near al-Sha’er oilfield, and killed or wounded scores of them and finally pushed them back from Taha hill overlooking the oilfield.

Also, earlier today, the Syrian Army troops and National Defense Forces (NDF) continued to push the terrorists back from their positions near al-Sha’er oil and gas fields and captured more territories.

Hours later, the ISIL withdrew from more strongholds in Zalmat al-Maher in the Western side of al-Sha’er oil-rich region under the heavy attacks of the Syrian government forces. The ISIL suffered a heavy death toll and its military vehicles, weapons and ammunition sustained major damage in the attacks.

Later in the day, the Syrian military forces’ offensives on ISIL strongholds in the region forced the terrorist group to pull forces back from more positions.

“The Syrian army and its allies inflicted major losses on the ISIL terrorists and recaptured at least 10 new positions in the Eastern part of Homs province, including Karbala and Qarbi mount,” the sources said.

The pro-government forces engaged in heavy fighting with the ISIL to retake control over the strategic mount of al-Swaneh near al-Sha’er oilfield.

“The army has also gained the upper hand in al-Maher oilfield and has seized key hilltops there,” sources said.

“The ISIL has failed to resist against the heavy offensives of the army and its allies and has only tried to bring its casualties down through continued withdrawal from under-the-attack strongholds,” some battlefield sources said.

Later, the Syrian government forces scored another decisive victory against the ISIL in al-Sha’er region and took full control over one more strategic mountain after hours of battle.

The Syrian army and National Defense Force continued to drive the ISIL back from their positions and captured al-Swan mountain.

The ISIL failed to resist against the army soldiers’ offensive and fled the battlefield after leaving behind scores of the dead and wounded members.

In the afternoon, the ISIL terrorists came under the surprise attacks of the Syrian Army troops in two key regions near al-Sha’er oilfield and pulled forces back from the battlefields under the heavy fire of the government forces.

The Syrian soldiers and their popular allies, who had tactically retreated from Zamlat al-Maher and Aqayrabat crossroad a few hours ago, launched a fresh round of joint offensives and pushed them back from the region after inflicting major casualties on the terrorists.
