Fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have liberated two villages from Daesh (ISIS / ISIL) terrorists during their operations in the northern province of Raqqa.

The villages of Namrodia and Matmashraja near Ayn Issa, about 55 kilometers (34 miles) north of Raqqa, were captured by the coalition of a Kurdish and Arab forces following heavy clashes with the terrorists, the official SANA news agency reported on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the SDF announced that they had launched a major offensive against ISIS in the province, adding that the operations are being supported by US warplanes.

According to reports, some SDF 30,000 troops have been deployed to the region.

SDF commander Rojda Felat said that the goal of the operations was to “liberate northern Raqqa” and those living under Takfiri “oppression”.

“The campaign is aimed at repelling terrorist attacks on Shaddadi, Tal Abyad and Kobani, ensuring the security of our people,” Felat added.

Elsewhere, the Syrian army conducted operations against the Takfiri terrorists liberating several villages, destroying equipment, and killing large numbers of the militants, in the provinces of Homs, Deir Ezzor, Damascus and Quneitra.

Syria has been gripped by a foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. According to a February report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of some 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
