16 June 2016 9:45

JULY 8: Syrian troops participate in a live fire exercise in an undisclosed location in Syria. In a show of force, the country began large-scale military exercises to show their ability to handle against outside "aggression." Damascus' staunch ally Iran warned of a "catastrophe" in the region if no political solution to the 16-month-old Syrian conflict is found. (Syrian News Agency)

The Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) missile battalion fired a powerful ballistic missile into the East Ghouta region of Greater Damascus on Wednesday, causing a great deal of damage in the rebel-held Jisreen Farms area. According to an Al-Masdar field correspondent in Damascus, the ballistic missile that struck the East Ghouta on Wednesday was identified as a Soviet manufactured OTR-21 Toshka missile. The OTR-21 Toshka missile has been only used before in this violent conflict; however, it is rarely seen.
