A senior Iranian lawmaker says terrorists had been dispatched to Iran from Daesh hotspots in Iraq and Syria, adding that all of them have been identified and arrested by Iranian security forces.

Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi made the remarks at a press conference in Damascus, where he has been visiting at the head of a delegation, Fars News Agency reported on Thursday.

The terrorists, he said, had been dispatched from the northern Iraqi city of Mosul and the Syrian city Raqqah, which the Takfiri terrorist group of Daesh has proclaimed as its headquarters in Iraq and Syria respectively.

He did not specify when the terrorists had been arrested.

On Wednesday, Iran’s Intelligence Ministry said it had identified 102 members or supporters of the so-called Tawhid and Jihad Takfiri terrorist groups in the western province of Kordestan, which neighbors Iraq.

The ministry said the group had planned attacks, including assassination of local officials and armed robbery, in the provincial capital city of Sanandaj over the past years.

Back in July, the ministry said it had foiled a major Takfiri-Wahhabi plot to carry out bomb attacks in the capital, Tehran, and other provinces and arrested suspects.

‘US has plans for south Syria’

Boroujerdi also said there were outposts in southern Jordan that were being supervised by the United States and used toward the activation of a new front in southern Syria.

Last month, US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said US-led troops in Iraq and Syria sought to open a new front in southern Syria in addition to their ongoing offensive in the country’s northeast.

Boroujerdi further touched on a gathering of the terrorist Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO), which was attended by a number of politicians hostile to Iran last month in Paris.

Saudi Arabia’s former spymaster Turki al-Faisal attended the meeting and gave a 30-minute speech to the rally. Meanwhile, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with MKO ringleader Maryam Rajavi on the sidelines of the event.

Boroujerdi said the gathering was attended by those “who have suffered political defeats.”
