Rally in Gaza to celebrate Kayed’s victory
A rally was staged in Gaza on Thursday by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in solidarity with prisoner Bilal Kayed, who has just suspended his hunger strike in an Israeli jail.
Dozens of civilians and activists rallied in Gaza as the Israeli prison service (IPS) succumbed to Kayed’s demands.
PFLP leader Allam al-Kaabi said Kayed’s victory is a victory to the prisoners’ movement and a harbinger of a new stage in the Palestinian national struggle. He slammed the Palestinian Authority for its reluctance as regard’s Kayed’s case and the prisoners’ cause.
Al-Kaabi hailed the Palestinian people and Kayed’s family for the victory achieved by prisoner Kayed. Islamic Jihad leader Khaled al-Batesh also acclaimed the efforts made by popular campaigns to support Kayed and other hunger-strikers in Israeli jails.
“Our detainees will follow Kayed’s footsteps until thy restore their right to live freely and in dignity,” said al-Batesh. Activist Talal Abu Dharifa, from the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, also called for taking advantage of Kayed’s victory and internationalizing the prisoners’ cause.
