Zionist regime fighter jets carry out new airstrikes on Gaza Strip

15 September 2016 9:25

Israeli military aircraft have carried out three air strikes against areas in the Gaza Strip in yet another act of aggression against the besieged coastal territory.

The first airstrike struck an open area belonging to Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, northwest of the city of Beit Lahia, in the early hours of Thursday morning, Arabic-language Safa news agency reported.

The second airborne assault targeted the Shima’a area northwest of Beit Lahia, causing a fire. The third attack hit Yarmouk base of Qassam Brigades in the eastern Shuja’iyya neighborhood of Gaza City.

There were no immediate reports about the possible casualties.

The airstrikes came hours after Tel Aviv claimed that a mortar shell fired from the coastal enclave had hit an open terrain in the Eshkol regional council. The projectile reportedly did not cause any damage.

The Israeli military frequently bombs the Gaza Strip. The disproportionate force is always used in violation of international law, and civilians are often killed or injured.

In early July 2014, Israel waged a war on the Gaza Strip. The 50-day military aggression, which ended on August 26, 2014, killed nearly 2,200 Palestinians, including 577 children. Over 11,100 others – including 3,374 children, 2,088 women and 410 elderly people – were also wounded in the war.

The Gaza Strip has been under an Israeli siege since June 2007. The blockade has caused a decline in the standards of living as well as unprecedented levels of unemployment and unrelenting poverty.
