Syrian Army advances in Jobar amid heavy bombardment
Faylaq Al-Rahman launched a surprise offensive in the East Ghouta region of rural Damascus, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) defenses at the key town of Jobar early this morning.
The Syrian Armed Forces were able to repel the Faylaq Al-Rahman attack after a short battle that ended with the latter’s commander being killed.
Following Faylaq Al-Rahman’s retreat, the Syrian Arab Army’s 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard, backed by the Palestine Liberation Army (PLA) and National Defense Forces (NDF), launched a counter-attack from three different axes in Jobar.
Using heavy artillery, the Syrian Armed Forces were able to make headway in Jobar, capturing several building blocks that were used by the Islamist rebels to launch today’s offensive.
According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Armed Forces advanced at every axes they attacked today; however, they will likely halt their attack in the coming hours, as nightfall descends over the East Ghouta region.
