Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units liberate 35km of territory in west Mosul
The Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (Hashd Al-Sha’Abu) launched a powerful assault in the southwestern countryside of Mosul this morning after waiting several days to begin their massive offensive.
In a matter of hours, the Popular Mobilization Units managed to capture 7 villages from the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) that stretch across 35km of terrain in southwestern Mosul.
With today’s gains, the Popular Mobilization Units have advanced to the outskirts of southwestern Mosul, leaving only a small parcel of territory separating their forces from the Islamic State’s capital in Iraq.
Intense clashes are still ongoing at the moment near Mosul’s southwestern axis, as the Iraqi forces continue their push to enter the city.
