The Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (Hashd Al-Sha’abi) advanced deep into the western countryside of Mosul on Sunday after launching a powerful attack this weekend.
According to the PMU’s official media page, their forces managed to liberate a 13 villages from the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) in the last 24 hours, including Amrini, ‘Ayn Nasr, ‘Ayn Bayda, Zarqa, Al-Mustantiq, and Jirn.
As a result of this advance, the Popular Mobilization Units are now within striking distance of Mosul’s southwestern districts, leaving the Islamic State terrorists flanks from several points.
In the coming days, the Iraqi Army’s 9th, 15th, and 16th divisions are expected to resume their large-scale offensive in the southern and northern outskirts of Mosul.
