The Syrian Army units thwarted an ISIL attempt to attack a number of military posts near a key town in Central Homs province, a military source said Thursday.

“ISIL militants deployed in groups to attack the Syrian Army positions near the town of Jeb al- Jarrah in al-Mukharram region of Homs province, but the Syrian Army forces were ready to encounter the militants and their attack was nipped in the bud. The terrorists sustained casualties before retreating back to their own lines,” the military source said.

In the meantime, the Syrian Air Force launched several airstrikes over ISIL positions in Eastern Homs and according to battlefield sources, the Syrian Air Force’s raids have inflicted casualties on the terrorists and destroyed a large number of their armored vehicles.

The sources added that the primary target for the Syrian Air Force were the villages of Huwaisis, Al-Tibah, ‘Arak, and Al-Sakhanah, which are among the major stronghold of terrorists in the area.

The Syrian Air Force carried out more than 30 airstrikes against ISIL in Eastern Homs, paving the way for the second phase of the Syrian Army offensive in the Al-Sha’er Mountains.

Earlier this week, the Syrian warplanes also struck a large gathering of the ISIL terrorist group in Eastern Homs, foiling their planned attack on government troops’ positions in al-Maher oilfield.

The Syrian fighter jets, tipped off by intelligence agents, pounded a large gathering of ISIL terrorists and foiled their plan to storm the government troops’ defense lines in al-Maher oilfield, and a large group of ISIL terrorists were killed or wounded and their equipment and vehicle were destroyed in the air raid.
