28 killed as passenger bus overturns in southwestern Iran
Some 28 people have been killed after a passenger bus overturned in Iran’s southwestern province of Fars.
The bus, which was carrying a group of Iranian pilgrims to Iraq’s holy city of Karbala, keeled over on Tuesday night after leaving the central city of Yazd and while travelling near Kakan village in Jahrom County of Fars Province.
The initial death toll had been put at 20, but was later revised up to 24. Four people died later while being transferred to hospital.
Around a dozen people were also wounded in the incident.
The health condition of those injured are said to be generally favorable, according to Hadi Hadi-Nasab, the general director of the Crisis Management Center at Provincial Governor’s Office of Yazd Province.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
