Iran deplores terrorist attack in Pakistan’s Lahore

14 February 2017 17:17

Iran has denounced a recent terrorist attack in Pakistan’s cultural capital of Lahore, which killed at least 13 people and wounded 83 others.

“Through such inhuman and brutal measures, terrorist groups seek to target the determination of regional nations to fight terrorism and eradicate it,” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Tuesday.

“However, we are confident that events like the one that occurred in Lahore will not help these [terrorist] groups to achieve their ominous goals,” he added.

The Iranian spokesperson emphasized that the Islamic Republic would always stand by the Pakistani government and nation in their battle against terrorism.

Qassemi sympathized with the Pakistani government and people, particularly those injured in the terrorist attack and the bereaved families of the victims.

The powerful blast ripped through a protest rally organized by Pakistani chemists and pharmaceuticals manufacturers near the provincial assembly in the eastern city of Lahore on Monday.

The explosion occurred when a man on a motorcycle rammed into the crowd of hundreds of pharmacists, who were protesting new amendments to a law governing drug sales, according to local police official, Zaheer Abbas.

The Jamaat-ur-Ahrar faction of the Pakistani Taliban has claimed responsibility for the bombing.
